The Colorado Yeti had an uncharacteristic uneventful offseason recently. The front office decided to trade away their stars for young talent and draft picks. Over the next 2 seasons, the Yeti will have over 15 selections in the draft. From that inaugural season where they went to the Ultimus Championship, they have less than 7 players that will be logging quality minutes. Fortunately, we were able to speak with one of those veterans today. Please welcome my guest, in my opinion, the best linebacker in the NFL, Johnathon Saint.
JS: Do you mind if we do that again
RE: Uh… sure, do you mind if ask why?
JS: Well you said I was the best linebacker in the NFL in your opinion and I didn’t like that
RE: I thought I was stating my opinion
JS: Exactly as a journalist isn’t your job to state facts only?
RE: Since you know so much, what should I have said then?
JS: Uh, let's see. Please welcome my guest, the best linebacker in the NSFL, Johnathon Saint.
RE: that’s exactly what I said.
JS: Not it’s not, what you said was an opinion. What I said was a fact.
RE: I feel like you are joking. You’re joking, right?
JS: …Yeah man I’m just busting your balls (laughs)
RE: (laughs) You had me going there for a minute.
JS: so how’s it going, I never caught your name
RE: It’s Jefferson Johnson
JS: Can I just call you JJ, we’re friends right?
JJ: Yeah sure go ahead
JS: Thanks, It’s just that I am so bad at names. So what did you want to talk about today?
JJ: I wanted to get your thoughts on the entire offseason and your plans for next season?
JS: Yeah, no problem. Fire away!
JJ: So you got contract extension over the offseason
JS: Yes, I did!
JJ: Can you talk us through that a little bit
JS: Well you know I was fully ready to enter free agency before we got the deal done. It’s not like I
wanted to leave the Yeti, it just no one approached me and I didn’t approach them. So after we got new management, I believe one of their first moves was to resign me. So we got the job done.
JJ: Let’s talk about your contract, its very team friendly. How do you guys come to terms on that contract?
JS: Well, they approached me and we kind of had nice battle to start. Like, they would say give me a number and then I would say “No. you give me a number.” Then they finally cut the crap and said look we trust you and we want we you give us a number. So I did, this is my team and I wanted them to bring in some talent. So I took team friendly contract.
JJ: Speaking of new management, the Yeti have had so much front office turnover in your first three seasons. Can you talk us through the differences between the three different regimes?
JS: So with the first regime, they kind of have a special place in my heart. They took a chance on me and drafted me in the 10th round. So I kind of blame them for my hard work because I always think back to that moment when I thought I wasn’t going to get drafted. I have a chip on my shoulder and I can’t thank them enough. The next group was definitely more of a family feel than the others. We came in together and we all had chips on our shoulders from the Outlaws lost and we wanted to win. So it was a feeling of us against the world in the locker room. With this group, I have kind of fallen into the Old Man Logan role. You know this new management has a vision so I kind of just sit back, maybe get a sack here or there, and just watch them go to work.
JJ: Let’s talk about that this is pretty much a brand new Yeti Team and the management has been criticized heavily for the moves they made…
JS: I’m going to stop right there see because I know what you’re going to say next. How do you feel about it and did he make the right moves and stuff like that
JJ: Well, did he?
JS: Yes he did, we pretty much own all of the season 4 draft picks and picked up some great guys for the future. For example after everything that happened with Noble we traded for Nathan Pierno. That guy is a spark plug for this team. He brings such an electric energy to the locker room. He sometimes makes me want to go out there and block for him. Jaquan Young has explosive talent. Did you see him in the DSFL preseason? That dude was a beast! And Boggs from the moment he got to Colorado, he was bleeding that red and black. I’m excited to see what this team can do in the future.
JJ: Well, Let’s talk about the first two games of the season. You win a nail-biter in Colorado against the Las Vegas Legion in week one, Then your guys lose a very lopsided game against the Otters. Can you talk us through those two games?
JS: Yeah, no problem. So the first game was an extremely hard victory. Ya know, you people in the media always make fun of the legion but that’s a team with a lot of talent. I feel like they playing player harder because of yall...like they got a chip on their shoulder or something. I think you people are making my job harder (laughs). But yeah one thing that I saw was that we weren’t consistent enough. Especially me, someone told me I got all 3 of my sacks in the first quarter. Plain and simple that’s not good enough. I need to be a force throughout the entire game not just 25% of it. The game against the Otters, we were just bad man, that’s it. We have the potential to be so much better than that performance. Not just potential, we are better than that performance. We just have to show the world what we already know.
JJ: Well, the best thing about football is that the games are only one week away. Can you give us your thoughts and predictions about your week 3 matchup against the Baltimore Hawks?
JS: So we are going to be playing a very tough team in the Baltimore Hawks this week. I can see this game being very entertaining for the fans to watch. We have 2 of the best running backs in the league going up against each other. There’s the war going on between brothers, Antonio and Ricardo Sandoval, in the trenches and they both are tremendous at what they do. As if there was a need for any more drama, this is a conference game that could have playoff implications in the future. Man, I’m pumped! If I could I would play this game right now. But this a game that’s on us. We have all the talent in the world and I know we can beat them. If we lose, then we beat ourselves. They won’t beat us, we are just too good. We are our own worst enemy and a wise man in an eye patch once said that “the enemy always win.”
JJ: Wow, that’s um, interesting. You also have a game in week 4 against the Outlaws in Arizona, can you talk to us a little about?
JS: Boy that’s going to be a tough game for us. The Outlaws are a heavy favorite to not only make the playoffs but win the Ultimus championship this season. This is a completely different team than we faced in season 1. Hell, this is a different team than the one we beat last season. They got Phillipe Carter now and that’s scary. He’s an absolute beast on the field and you know it’s going to be a fun matchup for both of us. You know, I believe this is the game that will test where we’re at. This will show us how much talent we have right now. I think we can definitely beat them but you we are going have to fight for it. It’s not going to be easy but it’s definitely possible.
JJ: Okay, final question, what is your favorite thing to do on your off days? What does Johnathon Saint do for fun?
JS: Well, you know I love an adventure. So when we get a day off, I like to try and climb waterfalls. It’s a very exhilarating experience! You’ve got to try it sometime!
JJ: I’ll take your word for it. I’m sure your coach doesn’t approve of this activity
JS: Well JJ, besides the people I go with, you are the first person to know. That’s headline-worthy right there. You happy, JJ? I gave you that inside scoop (laughs).
JJ: (Laughs) extremely happy. Mr. Saint, it has been an honor talking with you.
JS: Aww, thanks, JJ. I could say the same to you.
Well, there you have it. That was my player exclusive interview with the man, the myth, the legend, Johnathon Saint. I kid you not he told me to say that. He had fun. We had fun. And I know you, yeah you, at home had fun. Watch Johnathon Saint and the Colorado Yeti play the Hawks this Friday in a game that you don’t want to miss. My name is Jefferson Johnson, and I guess now, also known as JJ and this has been Sit Down with the Stars on the NSFL Network. Thank you for joining us.GRADED
