NOT READY TO BE GRADED

FIRST ROUND PICKS - WHERE ARE THEY NOW

The coveted first round pick is almost guaranteed to help find a franchise their cornerstone or that last final piece to help guide them to the promise land, a championship. Let’s go back season by season and see how each first-round pick did in the NSFL.

SEASON ONE INAUGURAL DRAFT

1st Overall
Orange County Otters - J.J Reigns

J.J Reigns was the first ever draft pick in the NSFL, so with a title like that he had big expectations (at least in my eyes). Mr. Reigns started off as a DT, listed as the first DT to ever be created in the league. In his first season, he did not put up spectacular numbers but was a key in the Otter’s defense which let up the least amount of points in the inaugural season. He even earned a pro bowl nod in the league’s infant stage. After a 2 tackle 1 sack game, the Outlaws took the Otters out of the playoffs. Next season Reigns returned with a slightly worse year. The Otters still had a top 3 defense in the league, but had slipped from last season. Season 3 Reigns had sat out for unknown reasons to me (not knowledgeable in NSFL history :P). After that season he decided it was time for a change. He lost weight and became a WR for the Otters in Season 4. Despite being 12th in the league in yards and catching 5 TDs for the Otters that season, he was still the third option of that offense and never truly shined. He had a solid game in the Ultimus catching 9 passes for 58 yards and helping the Otters win their first championship. The following season, J.J Reigns was traded to Colorado for Thomas Mango. This is when things really started to drop off for Reigns (as if they hadn’t enough already) nearly having half the stats he did with the Otters the previous season. Season 6 wasn’t much better after only catching 3 balls for 20 yards. And finally, in Season 7 he had a resurgence year, but not truly a great one, but he did pull in average numbers. In conclusion, J.J Reigns is widely known as the first and biggest bust the league has ever seen, and for good reason. Reigns were one of the most hyped up prospects in the inaugural draft and he never reached the expectations. After one pro bowl and listing 45th overall on the S2 top 50 “players of today” Reigns never quite got back into the spotlight. Reigns is still in the league but will be a free agent in Season 8 being released from the New Orleans Second Line.
